Step 1: Bookmark this page in your browser. Really. You’ll want to come back here to copy and paste your job search.
Step 2: Design your job search to eliminate (or greatly reduce) employers who have a prejudice against ex-offenders. How? Simple. You enter “negative” search terms into your search window on the job search engines. Eliminate the things you DON’T want to see. For example, if you don’t want to see “background checks”, you’ll enter ‘-”background check”‘
First put the exact phrase you want to eliminate in quotes. Then put a minus sign in front of it. When doing this remember to use both singular and plural forms of the phrase.
Step 3: Try one yourself right now. I happen to know for a fact that this works for the Indeed.com search engine. I have a search window below. So go ahead and copy and paste the following line into the keyword field below…
-”no felony” -”no felonies” -”background check” -”background checks”
Step 4: Pay it forward. Head up to the top of this page and share this on Facebook, Linkedin and/or Twitter. A lot of people could benefit from this one simple tip, so please pass it on!
